Madrid Jan 2011

As another long English winter rolled by, we thought we would take a break from the snow and get some Spanish sun, siestas and Sangria. Of course this simply was not to be as Madrid does not boast the warmest of temperatures in Jan as it is a very central & mountainous terrain. As it happened the weekend we went it was actually warmer in London and we got a maximum of 5 degrees. We meet up with friends Tom & Doc over there and another couple they were friends with.
Above- We were based a stones throw from the Sol metro.

Madrid Cathedral

Retiro Park- Madrid's main park
The local bull fighting centre- Unfortunately there was no bull fighting on the weekend we were there- instead they had the local circus.

A local treat- a shot of fermented fruit out of an edible chocolate shot glass

The crew at xxx restaurant Amber, Clark, Nadia, Tom, Doc, and Paul
The Calamari with squid ink was unbelievable

The Ox tail was also sensational

Plaza Mayor

The Royal Palace

Above- Madrid's official icon the bear eating from the sweet tree. The fruit on the tree ferments and it was not uncommon for the bears to strut around boozed back in the day.

Puerta Del Sol- Madrid's most famous Square
